Scott River Watershed Conditions are looking up

The Scott River Watershed conditions are looking good! Click here for last week’s report, including two local April 1 snowpack surveys. The Scott Mountain survey shows 171%, and Swampy John shows 132%! Four more sites will be surveyed soon; reporting deadlines have been extended due to heavy snow conditions. In more good news, NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, which currently shows us as in “Moderate drought,” predicts that “drought removal is likely over the next month” in the 96027 zip code. AgWA will be sending a letter to Governor Newsom and the State Water Board this month stating the facts about our precipitation and snowpack level—and asking that the drought “emergency” regulation be lifted. Scott Valley farmers and ranchers are still being asked to give up 30% of their groundwater use this upcoming irrigation season, with no compensation. Click here for past watershed reports.
